Does The HairMax LaserComb Really Work??

Hi all, and welcome to my blog. My name is Brad, and I am a 33 year old male from Sydney Australia. In the past 10 years, I have noticed my hair slowly but surely thinning. A genetic trait which I share with my brother and father. A few years back I started taking Propecia to fight my hair loss. After 2 months of taking Propecia I experienced testicular pains. I am not sure if this was related to the Propecia, but I decided to stop taking it. Eventually the pain went away. I gave up on my battle with hair loss. Then recently after looking at photos of myself, I decided it was time to do something about it. My hair regrowth plan was a 3 pronged approach. Plan 1. take Propecia (again), Plan 2. apply Rogaine Foam topical solution, and finally Plan 3. use a Laser Comb. But after thinking about my plan more, I realised that if I did experience some hair regrowth (wishful thinking) I would not really know what method was successful. So I have decided to break the 3 methods up. My first attempt at hair regrowth will be the HairMax LaserComb. I like the idea of the LaserComb as it is obviously the chemical free solution. After doing some research on the HairMax Laser Comb I was no better off than when I started. Obviously the HairMax people say their product works, and has a 90% success rate. But then I have read a couple of blogs featuring men who have tested the HairMax Laser Comb for 6 months, and haven’t noticed any difference. I figured the only way to truly know if the HairMax LaserComb does really work, is to test it for myself. What have I got to lose? (besides more hair and money). So feel free to follow my adventure. I will try to update my progress with the Laser Comb once a month. My blog will be brutally honest. I am going to tell it how it is, with before and after photos.

Ordering The HairMax Laser Comb

On July 15, I ordered the HairMax Laser Comb Premium model online from the official HairMax Website. Total cost was $530 US Dollars for the Premium Laser Comb. There is also a compact version called the HairMax Laser Comb SE. The only difference I could tell between the Premium and SE is the SE has less Lasers, 5 beams instead of the 9 beams on the Premium Comb. The SE is also cheaper, at $395. I decided on the Premium model as I need all the beams and power I can get :)

HairMax (Lexington) had a promotional deal on in July, $50 dollars off the regular price. I thought this was a good deal (and timing on my behalf) until I went back to the website in August, and they have the exact same promotion for August. I guess this is a clever marketing technique to make people feel they have got a great deal.

10 Days later my LaserComb arrived in the mail. It come packed away in a nice looking case. My first impressions of the HairMax Laser Comb we’re not entirely positive. The device itself is very cheap and plastic looking. The power cord is difficult to plug into the socket, and the lasers themselves look out of alignment when you point them on the wall. If you are expecting the build quality of say an Apple product, you will be sadly dissapointed. But to be honest, I don’t really care. If the device regrows my hair, I don’t care what it looks like. And as it turns out, after 15 minutes of holding the Comb above your head, I am actually glad it is light and plastic.

Day 1, Before Using The HairMax LaserComb

In this review I am going to be posting before and after photos…along with my own personal observations. Obviously we need some base line photos to work with. I have added a couple of photos below. They we’re taken the same day the LaserComb arrived. As you can see in the pictures, I have a fairly moderate amount of hairloss. Mainly in the front and tempal areas, as well as thinning of the crown. Lets hope the HairMax Laser Comb can fill these area’s in with thick lucsious hair :)

Using The HairMax Laser Comb

Using the HairMax LaserComb is pretty easy. There are only two buttons - Power And Laser. To start you press the power button, then press laser which will fire up the laser beams. Once the beams are on, you place the Laser Comb on the parts of your scalp you wish to address. The Comb has an automatic beeping sound, which beeps in 4 second intervals. So every four seconds you move the Comb another 1inch, and repeat until you cover the entire area. I spend about 15 minutes every second day covering the crown and frontal area of my scalp.

Before and After Photos (3 Weeks)

Ok I realise it is too early for any major results as yet. But I figured it wouldn’t hurt to show how things are progressing after 3 weeks of using the HairMax LaserComb. I beleive from the photos below, it is too hard to tell if there is any change. My hair has definately grown longer, which makes guaging things a little difficult. From now on, I plan on making these before and after photos as consistant as possible. Meaning on the day of a progress photo, I am going to shave my hair to a certain length with my clippers. So my hair will be exactly the same length with every update. I also plan on getting making the photos more focused, and consistant in terms of lighting/distance from flash.

Have I personally noticed any regrowth since using the laser comb? I can’t say I have noticed any dramatic changes, although I have noticed blonde velus hairs growing in my tempal areas. I am not sure if these hairs have always been there, and they are too small and fine to be picked up on camera. But I will definately keep an eye on them :)
